Daleks are the cybernetic creatures that have armored casing and comes from the planet Skaro. These heavily armed scifi gadget were first introduced in the second Dr Who story broadcast in 1963. During his journey the time travelling doctor arrives on Skaro and notices that there are two races that have survived a distant and protracted nuclear war, the peace loving Thals and the malevolent Daleks. Terry Nation, a famous writer who had originally set out to be a comedian, created the role of the Dalek. He must have been surprised when the Daleks became popular, as he had only written the script to pay for central heating to be installed in his house.
“In the 1960’s in London, Whitaker’s second Dalek story “Evil of the Daleks” featured Skaro prominently, which also introduced a Dalek Emperor. Of all the Dalek series, this one is said by most fans to be one of the greatest adventures on which the time traveller has been. The story examines the human race, what makes us weak and strong and most importantly how the most evil beings in the universe would exploit it. This series starts as the Second Doctor and the doctor's companion watch helplessly as the TARDIS is loaded onto a lorry and driven away from Gatwick Airport. The Daleks manage to force the Doctor with their brainwashed human operatives into running tests on humans to discover the 'Human Factor'. Therefore Daleks in these series are totally in control of the men, who have been bribed and blackmailed.
'Genesis of the Daleks' was another story of Daleks that came in 1975 in this Tom Baker played the role of Doctor. In the account he was on the planet Skaro and has the mission to avert the creation of the Daleks. Their creator was revealed to us as Davros, a scientist who would stop at nothing to continue his research. At the end of the story Daleks exterminate him, and having done so proclaim their intentions of growing stronger. With the passage of time Daleks became a highly admired scifi gadget. Today, almost forty years after their debut, they are still popular. Their name has entered in the Oxford Dictionary and several years ago a British stamp was issued with a picture of a Dalek.
