Win Free Original Dalek

Dalek A worthy adversary

The popular British television series, Doctor Who, is the most successful science fiction series of all times. It is the longest-running science fiction television show in the world which is also listed in the Guinness World Records. With a huge fan base around the world, the show has the highest number of "illegal downloads", DVD and book sales, and heavy iTunes traffic. A BBC production, the hit series revolves around the adventures of a mysterious and peculiar humanoid alien known as the Doctor who travels through time and space with his companions in his spacecraft, the TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space). The exterior of the spacecraft seems like a blue 1950s British police box. During his exploration he faces different enemies and saves civilizations by helping others and righting wrongs. He also improves the way people, aliens and robots choose to live their lives.
Doctor Who has many adversaries the oldest being the Daleks which were created by writer Terry Nation and BBC designer Raymond Cusick. They are a fictional extraterrestrial race of genetically manipulated mutants which first appeared in December 1963 in the second series and caused a fantastic public response. They were an immediate hit and instantly increased the viewing figures. Ever since their introduction they have been frequently featured in many episodes including two 1960s motion pictures. The Daleks are Kaled mutants in tank-like mechanical armour shells from the planet Skaro. They are a powerful race with distinct metallic voices with no emotions except hate. Their main role is to destroy all non-Dalek, inferior beings including the Time Lords without feeling any pity or remorse.
By far, the Dalek is a worthy adversary of Doctor Who that placed the series on the cultural map and has become an integral part of the British popular culture. In 1999, it appeared on a postage stamp and a survey in 2008 indicated that 9 out of 10 British children were able to identify a Dalek correctly. Earlier this year readers of science fiction magazine SFX voted the Dalek as the all-time greatest monster.
